Gemalto launches new smart card security device
8 Oct 2009

Digital security firm Gemalto has launched a new smart card - the Protiva Smart Guardian - to help businesses with various security issues.

Any attempts to tamper with the device can be detected, while the encrypted data stored on the card does not leave it, which makes it useful for storing sensitive information.

Cedric Collomb, Senior Vice-President of Identity and Access Management at Gemalto, said that Smart Guardian tokens are ideal for protecting sensitive information because of their combination of endpoint control and secure data storage.

Last year, Gemalto awarded UK eCash network sQuidcard with an award for payment innovation at the international Cartes exhibition in Paris.

Commenting at the event, Gemalto's Senior Vice-President of e-Payment Michel Leger said the award recognised the company's "capacity for payment innovation utilising the MagIC3's contactless USB, IP and Linux programming environment".

He added that the firm stood out for its contactless payment service and claimed sQuidcard's approach to retail-based small-value contactless transactions "will have significant appeal to both consumers and merchants alike".
