Government announces protection for contactless payments
1 Sep 2009

New measures have been announced by the government to provide increased protection to consumers who use contactless payment technology.

A set of guidelines, announced by Home Office minister Alan Campbell, have been agreed between the government and the mobile phone and banking industries, and represent "an important step forward in protecting the public from criminals".

He explained that the new action is designed to implement tough security for such payments at the earliest stages of the move towards a cashless society.

"I am pleased that the mobile and banking industries have worked with us to ensure that the public are protected at the earliest opportunity," he said.

UK-based eMoney network sQuidcard is a useful cashless solution for both consumers and retailers, as it offers full transparency.

Merchants can benefit from being able to identify trends within their business, while users can keep a regular check on their spending. And for greater security, its online portal offers visibility of all transactions made with the eMoney solution.
