Alliance happy for smart card debate
2 Oct 2009
Any individual or organisation that disagrees with the Smart Card Alliance's views on chip technology and other matters has been encouraged to raise a debate.
Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the group, said in the alliance's monthly electronic newsletter Smart Card Talk that "a forum for open discussion and debate" is a positive thing.
"We have room for anyone with different or opposing positions to share them," he claimed.
His comments come after he suggested last month that the past five years have seen contactless payment - such as smart cards provided by UK eMoney network sQuidcard - have the fastest deployment rate and acceptance of "any emerging payments technology in recent memory".
He stated that, despite this success, it is important to look at the ways in which the technology can be advanced.
That was one of the reasons behind the publication of the alliance's Issuer and Merchant Best Practices: Promoting Contactless Payments Usage and Acceptance, which was made available in September.
