11 Feb 2011

Canadian bank CIBC is set to issue contactless bank cards to its customers, it has been revealed.

The firm will offer its customers the chance to make contactless payments at over 13,000 retailers with its three new MasterCard Paypass credit cards.

"These new offerings for CIBC customers are an exciting opportunity to deliver the value MasterCard brings to consumers, merchants and businesses through our convenient, secure and innovative payment technologies, including PayPass," said Betty DeVita, president of MasterCard Canada.

"Canadians have embraced the tap-and-go convenience of PayPass, which gives cardholders the ability to purchase what they want, quickly, and without having to rely on cash on hand."

Customers will be able to choose from either the CIBC Aventura World MasterCard, the CIBC Dividend Unlimited World MasterCard or the CIBC Aventura MasterCard.

A range of outlets in Canada now accept contactless payment cards including Tim Hortons, Real Canadian Superstore, Toys R Us, M&M Meat Shops and The Second Cup.
