25 Mar 2011

Contactless smart cards and other electronic money and payment systems will be on show in Singapore next month at the Cards Asia 2011 next month.

The event will be held at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre and is expected to attract some 8,000 visitors from across the Asian region.

Representatives from banking and financial, telecoms, retail, government, healthcare, transport and near field communications (NFC) will be attending the event.

Among the events taking place, there will be sessions on prepaid cards, radio-frequency identification, near field communications and mobile money.

Richard Ireland, chief executive of Terrapinn Asia Pacific, said: "Cards Asia pioneered the cards and payments innovation show 16 years ago.

"It has since evolved to cover the broadest spectrum of smart payments and smart technologies today."

According to the Asia Pacific Smart Card Association, smart card technology is becoming increasingly pervasive in regions across the world, particularly where governments are backing rollouts.
