Chicago tourist attractions adopt contactless smart card scheme
3 Sep 2010

A new contactless smart card scheme is set to be introduced to 26 of the top tourist attractions in Chicago.

US firm Smart Destinations has developed the Custom Chicago Explorer Pass which allows users to gain entry into any of the participating venues for a discounted price.

Customers simply choose the attractions they would like to visit online and a custom-made smart card is then delivered and ready to use.

All the venues, including the John Hancock Observatory and the Museum of Science, have already installed smart card readers.

Cecilia Dahl, president and founder of Smart Destinations, expressed her delight that the company is working with high-profile partners.

She said: "Clearly having all of them [tourist attractions] on one platform reinforces the benefits for each individual partner. For the customer, it creates a uniquely powerful way to take advantage of the breadth of Chicago's museums, tours, and sights."

The firm is planning to roll out the programme to other US cities including Las Vegas, New York and Boston.
