Chinese university expands e-money programme across campus
27 Jan 2011

A Chinese university is set to expand its current e-money programme across the whole campus, it has been revealed.

Tianjin Polytechnic University (TJPU) is already using technology developed by contactless smart card manufacturer Legic Identsystems but it is now set to develop the scheme further.

The university's School of Computer Science and Software Engineering department will install 3,000 payment terminals across the campus to allow students to pay for goods quickly and easily. Currently, users can only access buildings and use some payment systems using the card.

"Year after year, we issue more than 5,000 new campus cards. Thanks to the flexible expandability of the Legic smart card platform we can now enhance our identification system independently and adapt it to future demands", said Zhenkai Wan, president of Academy of Computer Science and Software Engineering at TJPU.

Mr Wan added that the potential to add new applications to the card was one of the main reasons the university teamed up with Legic.
