Contactless smart card 'to make life easier for overseas jobseekers'
12 Feb 2010
A biometric contactless smart card system is currently being developed in the hope of making life easier for overseas jobseekers in Bangladesh, it has been reported.
The card is hoped to ease the immigration process by containing all the information that is included in a passport, with the addition of the jobseeker's fingerprint and the name and licence number of their recruitment agency, the Daily Star states.
Khurshed Alam Chowdhury, Director General of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training, says that workers should see fast solutions to any immigration problems that they may encounter thanks to the introduction of the contactless smart card.
Additionally, the devices will not able to be forged as they contain biometric data and they will also assist the Bangladeshi government in preserving information about those working overseas.
Similarly, a smart card identification system is soon set to be rolled out in Poland, which is expected to pave the way for other European nations - including the UK - to follow suit.
