Contactless smart cards to feature at Utah event

The opportunities and obstacles facing contactless smart card payment and other payment technology like it will be the topic of discussion at an industry event early next year.

Near field communication (NFC) technology will be one of the areas of focus for attendees to the third annual Payments Summit, which is hosted by the Smart Card Alliance, between February 22nd and 24th.

Salt Lake City's Marriott City Centre Hotel will host the proceedings, which should bring together a number of top executives from the fast-growing sector.

"This 2.5-day meeting will focus on exciting new trends and projects that are accelerating the widespread acceptance, usage and application of contactless and NFC mobile payments technology," the Smart Card Alliance states.

Businesses around the world continue to see the potential in smart card technology and this sector is expected to grow in the coming years, according to a recent report from market research group RNCOS.

It predicted that the global shipment of smart cards will rise at a compound annual growth rate of more than ten per cent between 2009 and 2012.
