Contactless smart cards 'transforming people's lives' in Asia

Contactless smart cards are transforming people's lives in a number of ways in Asia, it has been suggested.
According to the Cartes in Asia event, due to take place in March, this and other contactless technologies are making a variety of new things possible.
The organisers claim that in just a few years, wallets could become "a thing of the past", with mobile and contactless payments set to take off in the next five years, reaching $680 billion and $320 billion globally by 2015 according to research by Mastercard.
In Beijing, customers are no able to pay for buses and taxis usingĀ e-money, as well as for car parks, supermarkets, restaurants, cinemas and public telephones.
"Innovations such as these and many more will be showcased and discussed at CARTES in Asia exhibition and conference on March 29th to 31st, 2011 at AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong," they said. "Over 170 exhibitors and more than 4,000 trade visitors are expected."
