Demand from BRIC will drive uptake of smart card programmes
17 Feb 2011
Demand from Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) will drive the uptake of smart card programmes over the coming years, according to new research.
A report by Frost & Sullivan has revealed that these four nations are primed for a second influx of smart card projects, having already introduced the technology.
The study, called What Can the Smart Card Industry Expect?, claimed that the success of certain projects in these countries, such as China's national ID programme, has given consumers more confidence in the technology.
Damien See, Frost & Sullivan senior industry analyst, underlined the importance of consumer confidence in the growth of smart cards.
"A clear and transparent deployment is essential to ensure the success of smart cards projects," he said.
"The benefits of migrating to a smart card-based system, such as in the financial industry and national identity programmes are obvious, it is just that the implementation must be transparent in order to win customer trust."
