eMoney vital for vending industry
4 Jun 2010
The introduction of eMoney solutions has significantly improved the fortunes of the US vending industry, according to new research.
USA Technologies (USAT), the cashless payment provider, has found that, on average, vending operators' sales revenue increases by 15 per cent after installing the service.
The firm also found that many consumers were prepared to pay more for goods with a card due to the convenience of eMoney solutions.
Cash-only vending machines which stocked goods over $1 saw a decrease in sales of around 20 per cent, while those that provided cashless payments maintained sales levels.
Michael Lawlor, vice-president of sales and business development, highlighted the importance of the technology.
Writing in vendintimes.com, he said: "Our research shows that cashless payment is directly linked to an operator's ability to improve operating margins.
In other words, the adoption of card payment in vending is contributing to the long-term sustainability of the vending industry."
USAT analysed 20 million transactions in over 21 different vending market locations when compiling the research.
