EPC to publish white paper on mobile contactless payments
27 Oct 2010
The European Payments Council (EPC) has announced plans to publish a new white paper on contactless payments in the Single Euro Payments Area (Sepa) along with the GSMA.
Following the launch of a consultation on the issue earlier this year, the white paper will aim to highlight how payment service providers can cooperate with mobile operators to enable greater use of e-money transactions.
Dag-Inge Flatraaker, chair of the EPC's m-channel working group, said: "Building a common architecture for mobile contactless payments is a key objective of the EPC's initiatives for mobile payments in the Single Euro Payments Area.
He added that the implementation of a greater range of contactless payment solutions would make it even easier for customers in 32 Sepa countries to make transactions.
The white paper will focus on payment applications using near field communications (NFC) technology.
Meanwhile, the Smart Card Alliance has suggested that the growth of NFC-enabled devices will help boost the overall e-money payment industry.
