Gemalto could bring eMoney solutions to developing world
7 May 2010

eMoney transactions could be introduced to developing countries following an agreement between Gemalto and the World Bank to improve technology in the third world.

The World Bank, which provides assistance to developing countries, formed the partnership as part of the company's eTransform initiative.

The project aims to promote the use of ICT in developing countries and connect local governments with industry experts in order to improve the resident's quality of life.

The scheme could mean that Gemalto will introduce eMoney payment solutions to countries who seek the benefits of a cashless society.

Olivier Piou, Gemalto's Chief Executive Officer said: "Our unrivalled experience and digital security expertise can make a real difference for governments looking to leverage the information and communication technologies' power to benefit their citizens' lives."

Gemalto provides payment terminals to UK based company sQuid, the FSA regulated eMoney secure payment network.

sQuidcard holders can top up their contactless smart cards online or in store and use it to quickly and securely pay for goods.
