4 Aug 2010

A Lebanese university is set to launch a contactless smart card scheme having chosen its technology supplier.

Leviton has been selected to provide the multi-functional cards to Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), reports ameinfo.com.

Students will be able to use the cards to prove their identity, access campus buildings and pay for goods.

Furthermore, the cards can be linked to individual bank accounts to allow users to make quick and secure transactions outside of the institution.

The first phase of the operation has already been completed and Leviton plan to begin phase two at the beginning of next year when the card terminals should be installed.

Shady Youssef, network solutions and lighting management systems manager for Leviton Middle East and Africa, claimed the firm were honoured to have been selected.

He told the website: "The campus card project has been an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the quality of our products. We couldn't be more pleased with how well it's gone so far, and we're looking forward to phase two of the installation."
