More US cities to benefit from NFC-enabled vending machines
13 Dec 2011

People in more US cities will soon be able to benefit from vending machines fitted with near field communication (NFC) technology.

Earlier this month, Cantaloupe Systems said it is rolling out the gadgets in Washington DC, New York and Chicago.

Now, it has also been revealed that more are to be deployed in San Francisco and other areas in the mid-Atlantic region.

Apple and Android customers will be able to pay for things like chocolate by swiping their mobile phones across readers.

Furthermore, if their item becomes stuck, the technology means they have access to a real-time complaints facility that will free it up from a central location.

Cantaloupe Systems also wants to roll out the provision of coupons and other rewards for regular vending machine users.

The company's Anant Agrawal said the NFC technology will deliver better choice to customers and make the service they receive better by skipping the cash payment part.
