Multi-functional smart cards predicted to become more widespread
13 Jan 2011

The use of multi-functional smart cards is set to become more widespread over the coming years, it has been claimed

Ahmed Pauwels, chief executive of trade event organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt, expressed his belief that smart cards, especially those which utilise contactless technology, will be used in a variety of areas.

"The use of smart cards that can be used in multi-functional roles such as to control access, data storage and proof of identity are becoming increasingly popular in this region," he said

"This also allows for better monitoring and tracking of people and results in more efficient security coverage."

Multi-purpose cards are now being used by various governments across the world who are looking to incorporate multiple applications into a single card, such as identification and cashless payment systems.

Epoc Messe Frankfurt are currently organising the Intersec Trade Fair and Conference - the largest safety and security event outside of Europe.

The exhibition will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from January 16th until 18th.
