NEC launches first contactless fingerprint scanner
25 Feb 2011
E-money transactions could become more secure after NEC Corporation unveiled the world's first contactless fingerprint scanner.
The technology firm has announced that the HS100-10 Contactless Hybrid Finger Scanner will be shipped across the world from May.
It promises to improve the security and accuracy of the scanning process, as conventional scanners can be affected by different conditions, such as if a person's hand is moist or too dry.
A statement from the firm said: "The HS100-10's simultaneous acquisition of both fingerprint and finger vein information makes it particularly difficult for impostors to deceive the authentication system using it."
The company is the top ranked provider fingerprint and face recognition technology, according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
NEC will exhibit the HS100-10 at the Pulse 2011 technology event in Las Vegas, which begins on February 27th.
