New contactless smart card system for Chinese parking meters
13 Oct 2010
Legic Identsystems is working with Chinese firm Taiyuan Xinbao Parking Metre System (TXPMS) Co to create new contactless smart card parking metres in China.
The manufacturer of smart card solutions for personal identification has already begun rolling out the service in the city of Taiyuan.
Some 130,000 smart cards have been issued to drivers, who can use them on over 1,000 parking meters in the city.
Legic explained that the system has been designed so that it will be able to offer multifunctional approaches in the future, allowing citizens to use one contactless smart card for several services.
Zheng Xiaoyun, secretary of the general party branch of TXPMS, said: "The possibility to directly work with Legic offers new advanced parking solutions and will strengthen our position as the leading provider of contactless parking metre systems."
Earlier this week, the popularity of contactless smart card technology in Asia was highlighted when Nikkei Weekly reported that e-money transactions in Japan grew by 54 per cent in 2009, to account for more than 1.25 trillion yen (£9.57 billion) of spending.
