21 Sep 2010

A new pre-paid card has been launched in Kenya which allows users to make cashless payments for goods domestically and internationally, according to reports.

Supermarket chain Nakumatt and I&M Bank have teamed up to create the Visa international pre-paid card, reports nation.co.ke.

Cardholders can pay for goods and services with the card in Kenya and throughout the world in a bid to encourage cashless payments in the country.

The card can also be used to facilitate balances transfers, pay workers' salaries and make online payments.

I&M Bank recently secured the rights for Visa's online payment platform, enabling users to make cashless internet transactions.

Atul Shah, Nakumatt Holdings managing director, said: "The pre-paid travel card is one of our innovative financial products we have introduced as we continuously enhance lifestyles and deliver value."

Users can also receive their transaction history via text message to monitor their recent purchases.
