New smartcard printer aims to increase longevity
25 Feb 2011

A new smartcard printer has been developed which aims to increase the longevity of any cards it produces, it has been reported.

Contactless News has revealed that technology firm Digital Identification Solutions has created a new model, the EDIsecure DCP 360+ Direct Card Printer, which includes a range of features designed to reduce wear and tear of smart cards.

It features dual-side lamination technology which will protect the back of any cards, with most cards currently at risk of abrasion as they are only laminated on one side.

Moreover, the printers also include smart card encoding for both contact and contactless technologies.

Jonathan Bowen, product marketing manager at the company, told the news provider: "More and more of the market, especially the smart card market is wanting to put laminate even on the backside of the card to protect the backside of the card against abrasion, die migration and just wear and tear."

Mr Bowen added that cards which are laminated on both sides are also less likely to bend.
