New vending machines dispense free adult snacks

Near field communication (NFC) technology is being put to good use in Chicago this week, as a new high-tech vending machine is being tested out at the Shedd Aquarium.
The Chicago Tribune reports that Kraft has teamed up with jelly manufacturer Jell-O to create the gadgets, which could soon be rolled out worldwide to provide consumers with samples of all kinds of things.
Kraft's vending machine uses a computer to make sure that the person approaching is an adult. Once age has been verified, the person swipes their phone and can choose a free sample of Jell-O.
The NFC checks that the person has not received a sample before and dispenses one, as well as storing their information for future reference.
Kraft spokesperson Ed Kaczmarek said: "We're creating a breakthrough, digital out-of-home experience that is showcasing the future of how a consumer can interact with products."
It was recently reported by the Toronto Star that a new vending machine dispensing greetings banners had been rolled out in Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.
