NFC developments in Nice and Paris
6 Oct 2009

France's Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment has issued a grant to a team of technical experts to develop a Smart Muse Mobile near field communication (NFC) tour guide in Nice and Paris.

CONNECTHINGS, INSIDE Contactless and SAGEM Wireless have partnered to bring the system to the French cities, allowing visitors to access location and other multimedia information on NFC Wave-Me-enabled mobile phones.

Trial runs of the technology, which allows users to locate the details they need just by waving their handsets over NFC tags, will take place in Nice's old city centre and Paris' Teen Gallery at Centre Pompidou.

Remy de Tonnac, chief executive officer of INSIDE Contactless, said: "As the first city where NFC technology will be widely deployed in France, the old city centre of Nice is the ideal location for our initial Wave-Me deployment through this Smart Muse project."

He added that the teen gallery at the Centre Pompidou is already targeted at a younger audience who are generally keen to adopt new mobile technologies.

They should provide "valuable feedback" and test the Smart Muse system thoroughly, Mr de Tonnac continued.

Earlier this year, the French government invested in various projects to help increase the use of NFC technology throughout Nice.
