Texas roads set to adopt e-money tolling system
10 Dec 2010
Three roads in Texas are set to adopt a new e-money tolling system, according to reports.
Regional newspaper Lewisville Leader has revealed that the Dallas North Tollway, Addison Airport Toll Tunnel and Mountain Creek Lake Bridge will all introduce the TollTags programme on 11th December.
Drivers simply have to install the TollTags reader in their car before passing the cashless toll readers on the roads and the required fare will automatically be deduced from their account.
Residents who do not use the cashless programme will be charged at a later date via the ZipCash scheme, the NTTA's alternative payment option which sends a bill to motorists in the post.
Allen Clemson, NTTA executive director, told the news provider: "The switch to cashless tolling brings our region reduced congestion, improved safety and enhanced air quality through the free flow of traffic and the elimination of stopping and starting and weaving of toll booths."
ZipCash customers are charged around 50 per cent more than TollTag customers due to the extra administration costs.
