Transit card expands service in Malaysia
7 May 2010

Malaysian residents will now be able to use their transit cards to pay for parking fees in selected areas.

Motorists who park at the Kelana Jaya train station in Kuala Lumpur can pay for their parking with their Touch n' Go cards from this month.

Following initial tests, local transport authority Rapid KL has fully implemented the park and ride system, which allows passengers to use the same card to pay for bus, train and parking fees at a subsidised rate.

Ebi Azly Abdullah, group communication general manager for Rapid KL, claimed the move would be a great success.

He said: "Apart from increasing efficiency, we also want to give priority to our customers who use the LRT (Light Rail Transit), buses or monorail to park here and charge a flat rate."

sQuid, the FSA regulated eMoney payments network, also enables customers to make quick and secure cashless transactions with their prepaid contactless smartcard.

The card is available to all age groups, while users can avoid debt as clients can only pay what they have loaded onto the card.
