US firm set to accept e-money payments on all vending machines
18 Oct 2010
The largest vending and food services company in the US has announced that all of its vending machines will accept e-money payments within five years.
Pepi Vending has begun upgrading its machines to allow consumers to pay for snacks and drinks with a debit or credit card, reports Vending Times.
Vic Pemberton, Pepi Vending's president and founder, claimed the firm is switching over to the technology to make payments more convenient for customers.
He told the news provider: "Our customers are asking for cashless, and Pepi is a company that listens and delivers what its customers want.
"We truly believe that installing a cashless payment system is a must in this market, and that operators who don't make the investment risk going out of business."
Mr Pemberton estimated that around 30 per cent of all customers who pass a vending machine only carry a bank card with them.
The firm will use payment technology developed by wireless technology specialists USA Technologies.
