US healthcare organisation chooses new smart card supplier
28 Feb 2011

A US-based healthcare organisation has chosen a new technology firm to supply its staff with contactless smart cards for building access.

The Albert Einstein Healthcare Network (AEHN) in Philadelphia has issued over 7,000 staff members with cards developed by HID Global.

Russell Jones, network director for Protective Services at AEHN, revealed that the organisation has worked with HID Global in other areas in the past and they were the logical choice for the project.

He said: "By choosing HID's iCLASS contactless smart cards, we now have higher levels of security than traditional access-control technologies, and also benefit from a platform that incorporates our KRONOS payroll system and other applications such as single sign-on and cashless vending."

Staff can use the cards to pay for their meal in AEHN'S on-site cafeterias.

New smart card readers have been fitted at the organisation's four hospitals, seven campuses and 50 offsite primary-care physician and surgical-centre locations.
