US theme park introduces eMoney card
2 Jul 2010
A US theme park has introduced a new eMoney card which will allow users to make cashless payments.
Visitors to Waldameer Park in California will be issued with contactless Wally Cards, reports news-herald.com.
The cards can be used to pay for food and drink at stores around the park, resulting in reduced queuing times as transactions are quicker to process.
Paul Nelson, Waldameer Park and Water World owner, claimed that the pre-paid cards will prove to be a big success.
He told the news provider: "We're going cashless. We're going to offer Wally Cards, which people buy and put any amount of money on. That way they can easily use this for the purchase of refreshments, games and food throughout the whole park."
The new scheme will be optional for the rest of the year but officials have confirmed that all payments will be made with the Wally Card from 2011.
As part of a $500,000 (£330,000) investment, ride tickets will be replaced with wristbands featuring built-in barcodes.
