US university introduces eMoney solutions
9 Sep 2010

A US university has launched a new project which allows students to pay for goods using eMoney solutions.

High Point University in North California has released its Passport card which will create a new campus currency exclusively for students and faculty members.

University stores and facilities will no longer accept cash payments, while cardholders will be able to top-up online or via their bank card.

Roger Clodfelter of North Point University claimed the new technology will increase security on the campus as officials can monitor who is spending money.

He told campuschronicle.org: "We want to know who is here. With cash being used at HPU, anyone can come in and spend money. With the Passport card we can be sure it is one of our students who are here."

The institution has confirmed that cash will be accepted on selected occasions where a large volume of non-students will be on campus, such as family weekend.
