Airline loyalty schemes 'have many benefits'
17 Mar 2011

Loyalty solutions offered by airlines can be beneficial schemes for individuals to take part in, it has been suggested.

Speaking to MarketWatch, president of consumer research firm IdeaWorks Company Jay Sorensen stated that consumers do not necessarily have to spend thousands of pounds in order to reap the rewards.

In fact, there are a number of "perks" available, he commented, including upgrades to first class seats or access to airport VIP lounges.

Furthermore, fliers may be able to use their reward points to pay for hotels, cruises and car rentals.

However, the article stated that there is one drawback.

Because they are so keen to collect points, some people neglect to compare travel deals and instead end up booking with pricier providers, it noted.

It is not only airlines that can make use of loyalty schemes and contactless payment systems.

Indian railway minister Mamata Banerjee recently revealed the country is going to trial a new Go-India smart card on its railway system.
