Earning rewards on purchases 'more popular than ever'
28 Oct 2009
Since the late 1950s, British buyers have enjoyed collecting stamps, points and tokens that are redeemable against a variety of goods, according to the AA.
In a survey by the firm, some 49 per cent of respondents said that they have collected rewards when buying fuel such as garage gifts.
A higher percentage of men than women revealed that they currently collect points when topping up their petrol or diesel at the garage.
"The findings suggest that the prospect of earning rewards on purchases seems more popular than ever," a statement from the AA claimed.
It added that - despite men being more likely to collect points - women who do collect them appear more inclined to redeem them.
AA's research comes in the week that it launches a new credit card that offers points on card purchases.
Elsewhere in the UK, eMoney network sQuidcard helps run Coffee Republic's loyalty programme, which sees cardholders earn ten per cent on all purchases.
