East Grinstead loyalty programme proves popular
14 Aug 2009

More than 10,000 cards have been handed out as part of a loyalty scheme in the West Sussex town of East Grinstead.

Locals have been keen to get hold of the cards, which provide discounts and free gifts when used in many shops and pubs in the town, reports the Courier and Observer.

Further batches of the loyalty cards will be dished out, as more and more shoppers sense the opportunity for a bargain, while supporting their local economy.

Lee Marmara, mayor of East Grinstead, said: "There are a hell of a lot of shops and businesses here that people don't know about, so we want to do something to change that."

He added that the town needs to "keep it fresh" and encourage people to use their local facilities.

Elsewhere in the UK, residents of Bolton, Greater Manchester, use a smart card scheme provided by sQuidcard to access council services and make payments in local retailers.
