Kent school launches new loyalty card scheme
21 Oct 2010

A secondary school in Kent has launched a loyalty card programme designed to reward pupils for good behaviour and attendance.

The Marlowe Academy in Thanet has introduced the Vivo Miles card scheme which gives younger students the chance to earn loyalty points and a small cash reward.

Cardholders can then use their points to purchase goods such as mobile phones, cinema tickets and MP3 players from a school catalogue.

Principal Ian Johnson claimed loyalty programmes offer a range of benefits.

He told BBC News: "I think we need to recognise that schools have been doing this for years. When I was at school I won a cricket bat which was worth quite a bit of money because I played well in the school team."

The school is also offering year 11 pupils a £150 reward if they attend 93 per cent of lessons and pass a minimum of five GCSE exams including English and Maths.
