Loyalty programmes 'using RFID stickers'
10 Jul 2009

RFID - the technology behind the sQuidcard - is being used in sticker form by some providers of loyalty programmes, reports RFID Journal.

The innovation stands for Radio Frequency Identification and is the contactless communication used in smart cards when they are passed in front of a scanner.

RFID Journal reports that Sheetz, a retailer of sub rolls and deli sandwiches, offers stick-on RFID chips to its customers as part of a prepaid cards programme.

Meanwhile, Dairy Queen uses stick-on RFID in its own loyalty programmes, using the technology to allow customers to redeem their coupons.

According to RFID Journal, the stickers are intended to be attached to the customer's mobile phone fascia or protective case.

In Bolton, Domino's Pizza and Subway are among the retailers where the contactless smart card can be used as payment - and sometimes to access special discounts on future purchases.
