Loyalty schemes 'can help local retailers'
11 Jul 2011

Loyalty schemes could help promote local, independent retailers, new research has revealed.

The Local Loyalty report looked at the cards which are on offer to customers at the moment, as well as considering how businesses may want to incorporate schemes into their local area.

Business development manager Hannah Bowden, who authored the report, explained introducing a loyalty initiative is not an easy thing to do, "but loyalty cards are a catalyst for change".

She explained that the phenomenon is becoming more widely recognised across the board and it helps with "levelling the playing field between independent and national retailers".

Ms Bowden added they are a "positive way forward" and help to offer market towns a "fighting chance", despite the uncertain economy.

Recently, finance provider Capital One announced it would be introducing a new loyalty programme this month, to offer customers a card which gives them discounts at selected retailers.
