Loyalty schemes 'could be introduced to mobile payments sector'
29 Jun 2011

As near field communication (NFC) technology becomes a more prominent trend and mobile payments become more widespread, companies could consider introducing loyalty schemes.

This is the view of Juniper Research senior analyst David Snow, who said firms within the mobile payments sector need to start thinking further down the line.

He said the mobile payments sector offers "substantial growth opportunities" at the moment.

But "it needs to be seen ... as a platform from which to develop new value-added applications and services such as personalised mobile coupons, loyalty schemes, and novel augmented reality offerings", he suggested.

Recent research from Analysys Mason and Buongiorno revealed that the majority of Britons do subscribe to the idea of loyalty programmes or initiatives.

Some 73 per cent of those polled for the study said they are currently members of non-mobile loyalty programmes, including ones which earn people store points or frequent flyer miles.
