New loyalty card scheme launched in California
3 Dec 2010

A new loyalty card scheme has been launched in California which offers residents the chance to earn discounts in participating retailers, it has been revealed.

Regional smart card developer La Carte has developed the Downtown Novato Rewards Card for shoppers in the north of the state, reports the Novato Patch.

Residents of Novato and Sonamo County will be able to claim instant discounts and earn loyalty points at various shops including bakeries, clothes stores and salons.

The card can also be used as a gift card, while most participating stores have promised to donate a proportion of their income generated from the programme to a local youth centre.

Jayne Belote, executive director of the Downtown Novato Business Association, expressed her belief that the programme will expand further in the future.

"The goal is to get every business on Grant Avenue and the side streets to be part of it," she told the news provider, adding that it offers local shoppers a "reward for shopping in your own community."
