New loyalty card scheme launched in Kent
20 Oct 2010

A new loyalty card programme has been launched in Kent which aims to encourage shoppers to spend in local shops.

Swale Council has developed the Shop Local First card which will offer residents of Sittingbourne the chance to benefit from discounts, special offers and other incentives, reports thisiskent.co.uk.

The local authority will create around 30,000 of the cards, which can be used in retailers, restaurants or any firm in the area which pays the £25 fee to join the initiative.

Councillor John Wright, the council's executive portfolio holder for regeneration, learning and skills, claimed the programme is part of a larger scheme of initiatives in the area.

He told the news provider: "It is felt that extending the scheme will enable more people to use businesses and shops in their local areas and we obviously want to continue to help traders through these difficult financial times."

Swale Council introduced a similar programme in the nearby town Sheerness.
