New loyalty scheme from Sainsbury's
5 Oct 2009

A new loyalty marketing scheme has been set up by supermarket giant Sainsbury's.

In a bid to retain and reward customers, the company is making what it claims to be the biggest loyalty programme investment since the launch of the Nectar card seven years ago.

This new loyalty scheme will see customers handed vouchers at the checkout, providing them with 20 per cent off a whole host of food and drink items.

Highlighting the popularity of loyalty programmes in the UK, customer director at Sainsbury's Gwyn Burr said that 50 per cent of the nation's shoppers take coupons and vouchers with them to the shops.

"It's a really practical way for people to stretch their budgets, especially in the current economic climate," he explained.

Meanwhile, last month saw eMoney network sQuidcard launch a pre-pay contactless smart card with Pizza Hut Delivery stores in Dundee, Scotland.

As well as allowing customers to pay for food with the card, the set-up ensures they can benefit from an email voucher loyalty scheme offering rewards which can be redeemed in-store.
