New loyalty scheme set to be trialled in Singapore
26 Nov 2010
A new loyalty scheme is set to be trialled in Singapore before being rolled out across the world, according to reports.
BBC News has revealed that entrepreneur Aneace Haddad is set to launch his online service Taggo, an abbreviated form of 'tap and go', in the country.
Consumers who currently hold a transit card or contactless payment card with a unique identity number can register it with Taggo before signing up to participating retailer's Facebook pages.
Once they have completed the process, they will be eligible for special offers and discounts without having to carry around another card in their wallets.
Mr Haddard told the news provider: "It's a substitute for coupons, it's a substitute for cards so the retailer doesn't have to issue his own loyalty card.
"You just tap your transit card and on the screen the clerk sees whether or not you're a fan."
He added that Singapore was an ideal place for the "soft launch" of the scheme as Facebook is very popular in the country and many consumers already own smart cards.
