One millionth customer signs up to Abu Dhabi airline loyalty scheme

An Abu Dhabi-based airline has announced that it signed up its one millionth customer to its loyalty scheme.

Etihad Airways has confirmed that a passenger flying from Abu Dhabi to Munich yesterday (29th November) became the latest member to join its Etihad Guest programme.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways' chief commercial officer, expressed his belief that reaching the landmark is especially impressive as the loyalty scheme was only launched four years ago.

He said:"Etihad Guest is targeting another half a million members over the next two years, and with the continued enhancements to our programme and the provision of more and more unique benefits - particularly for our top tier members - we are confident we will reach this target"

The customer, Frithjof Hilgers, was awarded 100,000 Etihad Guest Miles which can be redeemed against a range of goods offered in the firm's store and participating retailers, as well as 1,800 flights.
