Pick n Pay launches new loyalty programme
21 Mar 2011

A new loyalty programme has been launched by South African business Pick n Pay.

The retailer, which is one of the biggest sellers of food, clothing and general merchandise in the country, has introduced a scheme that will see consumers rewarded every time they make a purchase.

When a card is swiped, people will be given points as part of the Smart Shopper initiative.

Once 1,000 points have been collected, they can be exchanged for cash or a donation to a charity or environmental cause.

Chief executive officer of the company Nick Badminton claimed advances in technology mean the scheme can be run efficiently, offering numerous advantages to customers.

"Swiping, points, cash back and coupons are all familiar and attractive concepts for customers," he continued.

This is the first major grocery chain loyalty programme of its kind in the country and Mr Badminton said initiatives such as these never fail to engage shoppers.
