Thousands sign up for Canadian supermarket's loyalty card scheme
25 Nov 2010
Thousands of Canadian residents have signed up to a new loyalty card scheme offered by one of the country's leading supermarkets, it has been revealed.
Metro Inc, which operates in Quebec and Ontario, launched its Metro et Moi card in the former city, offering customers discounts and rewards for their in-store spending, reports The Gazette.
Since the release of the card in September, more than 800,000 customers have signed up for a Metro et Moi card offering them discounts and promotions.
Eric La Fleche, chief executive of Metro, claimed the loyalty programme influences all aspects of the company, including pricing and promotions.
He told the news provider: "That's the kind of stuff we need to compete in this environment with all the discount stores out there. Not to name the big elephant in the room, but Wal-Mart is a big player."
The programme was created with customer research firm Dunnhumby Canada.
