Manufacturer produces 100 millionth contactless smart card

A global card manufacturing firm has announced that it has produced its 100 millionth contactless smart card.

CPI Card Group, the biggest manufacturer of contactless cards in the world, has confirmed that it reached the landmark at its facility in Colorado.

The firm provides contactless-enabled cards to a host of leading international financial institutions including Barclays, US Bank and Capital One.

"We have strong partners in the financial market who have helped us reach this unprecedented benchmark, and we will continue to lead this industry in technology and new innovation," says Benoit Guez, director of smart cards and new technologies at CPI Card Group.

"We want to meet our client's needs by providing secure, high-quality cards at a competitive price and in a quick timeframe."

Contactless payment technology has become increasingly prevalent over recent years as providers look to offer their customers greater security, convenience and speed when making transactions.
