McDonald's Canada embraces electronic money
11 Jul 2011

The use of electronic money is being embraced in Canada, with McDonald's now providing point-of-sale terminals in over 1,400 restaurants around the country.

This means that people will be able to pay for their food securely and quickly by tapping their mobile or credit card against a reader, with the whole transaction taking seconds.

"We believe in giving our customers a quick and convenient way to enjoy quality food and superior service," Jacques Mignault, regional chief operating officer, remarked.

The fast food chain has partnered with MasterCard to see this development through, with David Orzel of the finance provider saying it is hoped customers appreciate how NFC technology can improve their dining experience.

McDonald's also recently rolled this scheme out in the UK, planning to introduce contactless payment terminals at its 1,200 restaurants across the country this summer.

A company spokesman told NFC Times that the move was about speed of service and convenience, with McDonald's partnering with Barclays and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
