Move to cashless society 'gathers pace'
26 Oct 2009
The world is moving towards a cashless society, according to Tripwire's Robert Kidd.
Writing for Secure Computing, the change auditing software company representative claims that such a move "continues to gain pace".
He indicated that, as this develops, every organisation has to rely on debit and credit cards.
As a result, Mr Kidd stated that companies need to make sure they comply with industry security data.
Elsewhere in the world, a cashless society of a different kind is developing in Greater Manchester.
Thanks to eMoney network sQuidcard and links with a number of local organisations, Bolton Council was recently able to launch the UK's first ever ITSO-enabled multi-purse smart card that allows holders to purchase various items and pay for other services.
People can use the card to buy a newspaper or other low-value items, as well use it to pay for bus travel in the region.
Adam Smith, chief executive officer of sQuidcard, said that the launch of the contactless smart card brings a cashless society a step closer to reality.
