New London bike hire scheme to use eMoney solutions
30 Jul 2010

The new cycle hire scheme in London will use eMoney solutions, it has been revealed.

Consumers can use a unique smart key device to quickly and easily rent a bike with the Barclays-sponsored scheme.

Only those who sign up to become a member of the programme will receive the key and they will also be eligible for special rates with the annual membership package.

From July 26th, around 6,000 bikes will be made available in 400 locations across the centre of the capital.

London mayor Boris Johnson claimed the scheme will allow more people to travel across the city.

He said: "For as little as 12p a day, members of this fantastic new addition to our transport system will have the freedom of central London.

"This scheme is set to become a new icon of the capital and will enable thousands more people to cycle in our magnificent city."

Transport for London has confirmed that 4,500 people have already signed up to become cycle hire members. The initiative will only be open to members following the first month of the launch.
