Orange unveils Glastonbury-inspired RFID tent
2 Jul 2009

Mobile network operator Orange has unveiled a concept tent inspired by the recent Glastonbury music festival and equipped with RFID.

RFID - the technology embedded in sQuid contactless smart cards - allows the tent to be identified from some distance away.

When it detects that the owner is approaching, the tent glows gently, guiding them to the right place on a campsite even in the dark.

As well as making use of the technology behind contactless smart cards, the tent is also fitted with flexible solar panels.

These provide the power for it to glow, as well as potentially allowing the interior to be heated and small devices such as mobile phones to be recharged.

Smart cards issued by sQuid are unlikely to be lost themselves, as they come in a variety of eye-catching designs including the classic hot pink version.

Alternatives are also available in Bolton which provide the user with access to loyalty programmes forDomino's Pizza and Subway outlets in the town.
