Poundland 'trials contactless payment'
26 Aug 2009
Poundland is testing the feasibility of contactless payment at two of its outlets in London, it has been reported.
An article from online resource Retail Week notes that the discount retailer's shops in Dalston and Hammersmith have been upgraded to make use of the technology.
Customers making payments of £10 or less will be able to hold a contactless-enabled card against a reader to reduce the amount of time they spend making their purchases.
Mo Rahman, IT services manager at Poundland, which was founded in 1990, told the site that emphasis is being placed on throughput.
"The transactions are quicker and therefore the number of people waiting at checkouts will be reduced and we will be able to get more people through," she added.
Ms Rahman also noted that the current trial could be extended in order to gain more data about the payment solution's feasibility and benefits.
