Pub chain rolls out contactless payments
7 Jul 2011

A cashless society came one step closer today (July 6th), with The Stonegate Pub Company rolling out contactless payment terminals in 80 Slug and Lettuce restaurants around the UK.

Provided by Barclaycard, the technology will mean that people can now settle their bills without using a pin number or signature.

The average value of transactions at this particular pub comes to £8.89, so this form of cashless catering could be perfect for those looking for a speedy lunch break.

A trial was held in four London diners, with head of marketing for Stonegate George Wright saying: "It reduced queuing significantly, giving diners smooth and quick service."

He went on to add that "we see contactless payments having a huge future in the pub environment".

This follows figures from the British Retail Consortium revealing that people are beginning to turn away from spending on credit cards and opting for different methods, ever more reluctant to spend cash they do not have.
